Psychedelic Cinema Orchestra

Psychedelic Cinema Orchestra is an improvisational musical group dedicated to creating new music to films.

In 2014, Ken Winokur, the groups director, organized the group to provide live accompaniment to the film Psychedelic Cinema 1967 - 1969) by filmmaker Ken Brown.   Brown created short super 8 films to be shown as part of The Road Lightshow.  Brown and his partners projected lights and images onto the stage of many of Boston's most prominent rock clubs, and in particular for the legendary Boston Teaparty.  Their creative work enlivened shows of some of the world's great musical acts including Jimmy Hendrix, The Velvet Underground and BB King.

Recently, Psychedelic Cinema Orchestra (PCO) has expanded their repertoire to work with both contemporary films and film from the silent era.  In the Summer of 2022, PCO will premiere their new score for the 1919 film, South - Ernest Shackleton and the Endurance Expedition.  Epsilon Spires in Brattleboro VT will host the first performance of this new project on August 6, 2022.

"A complicated stew of imagery"

While Ken Brown is characteristically soft-spoken about the film’s merits, his yearning for a different time is poignant nevertheless: “It’s nice to know that something you did long ago still has a life. I wish we all had more time to experiment. Maybe we do.”
